The Poway Knights support college and religious education for the deserving children of parish members. The process starts in the spring when applications are accepted.

The scholarship may only be used to pay for education expenses at any junior college, college, university, or vocational or religious institution. Academic Scholarships are awarded by the Knights of Columbus, Poway Council #6031, in recognition of the continued support provided by the members of Saint Gabriel Parish. These Scholarships are awarded each year to the successful applicants selected by the Scholarship Committee.

Two special awards will occur this year:

  1. The Deacon Bob Troy Memorial Scholarship is our top award

  2. The Jim Tom Cavanaugh Memorial Scholarship will target business or broadcasting majors who demonstrate tenacity, integrity, initiative, and dedication to their Catholic Faith

  1. Academic – Describe your academic performance. Indicate any awards of distinction received for academics or leadership. What is your career objective?

  2. Need – Help us understand your financial need, if any. How will you pay for your education? Are you dependent on family support? Do you work while in school? Do you have other scholarships, grants or awards and if so, how much is each?

  3. Church Service – In the LAST YEAR have you been active at St. Gabriel or another parish (i.e., Newman Center or local church outside of San Diego) where you are attending school.

  4. Community Service – What, if anything, have you done with respect to community service, and corporal works of mercy: To feed the hungry. To give water to the thirsty. To clothe the naked. To shelter the homeless. To visit the sick. To visit the imprisoned. To bury the dead.

  5. Insight – Beyond what you have written already, what more would you like to share that helps us understand the real you and how you see the world?
