The Knights of Columbus Council 6031 in Poway has been awarding scholarships for over 20 years.  What is unique about the program is that a student can continue to apply while attending school each year.  The funds to support the scholarships come from donations at the Knights annual dinner/auction event and private donations.

The Knights Council evaluated the candidates based on Academics, Church Service, Community Service, Insights and Financial Need.

This year we awarded $50,000 in scholarships to 38 students on August 19th. This is a 32% increase over last year. In addition to the top awards described below, the awards broke down as follows: 7 students received $2000, 9 received $1500, 10 received $1000 and 10 received $700.

This year’s group consisted of 15 graduating high school students, and 23 ongoing college students. Since the Knights support students throughout their educational career, we have 5 sets of siblings this year.

The High School graduate 2026 scholarship winners and their high school are Angel Garrett (Poway HS), Celeste Atienza (Poway HS), Peter Campbell (Mountain Valley Academy), Lizbeth Chavez Chamu (Poway HS), Alisson Cruz (Poway HS), Joanna Flores (Poway HS), Cecelia Garmon (RB HS), Jessica Moreno Gonzalez (Poway HS), Ben Green (Mission Vista Academy), Sidney Harris (Poway HS), James Knowd (Ramona HS), Ginger Kondzela (Poway HS), Sofia Rosati (Poway HS), Julia Skalsky (Poway HS), and Brianna Struhann (Poway HS).

The continuing 2026 scholarship winners are Mary Jane Widjaja, Kiara Bowser, Colin Chaconas, Giovanni Arias Chamu, Miguel Baranda Chamu, Vanessa Baranda Chamu, Charlotte Crudale, Natalie Cruz, Joey Flores, Katie Graves, Leo Graves, Peyton Jaro, Emily Kipp, Gabby Majchrzak, Banesa Martinez, Mariana Navarro, Alex Obert, Maya Pekarek, Michael Salvatori, Konor Santos, Jack Skalsky, Dillon Walters, and Maggie Woods.

The top awards include the Jim Tom Cavanaugh Memorial Scholarship which is for applicants in the broadcasting, or business major.  The 2026 winner is Angel Garrett who receives $2500 and finally, the Deacon Bob Troy Memorial Scholarship is an award that acknowledges the best of the best of our candidates.   The 2026 winner is Mary Jane Widjaja who  receives $3000.
