KoC Council 6031 – Knight of the Month

Michael Giulianotti

Born and Raised in:  Perth, Scotland, graduated from St Andrews University

Married to:  Christina                     for how long?  50 years this year!

Kids? 3 Boys and 4 Grandchildren

Occupation:  Scottish-taught Accountant.  Member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.

Major Jobs:  Public accounting till 1967 in Scotland and Channel Islands.  Wanted to get into International business and joined Santa Fe International, a company in the oil business headquartered in California with worldwide operations. I joined them in London specifically to work in their overseas operations and spent the next nine years in Abu Dhabi, Egypt, South East Asia and Iran. In 1977 they asked me to relocate to headquarters in the City of Orange to run the accounting and financial operations of two of their three divisions succeeding to Vice President. That’s how we got to the US.

We sold the company in 1982 and I stayed with them until 1986 when I was offered the CFO Job at another International company (Stoody Deloro Stellite Inc.). Stoody was involved in the hard facing metals industry and the HQ was based in San Diego. We sold the company two years later and I joined a Finnish multinational running its Co-generation activities out of San Diego. Finally, I spent many years consulting and working with various San Diego based companies. That’s how we came and stayed in San Diego.

Why you decided to join the Knights?  My Father was always on me to join the Knights back in United Kingdom, but I never did.  After I moved to Poway, Jim Tom Cavanaugh snuck up on me one day and convinced me to join this Council – I guess the timing was right!

What is one thing that your friends probably don’t know about you?  Well, Hell … it would be easier to ask what they DO know about me!  I am pretty much an open book – what you see is what you get!

Favorite Hobby:  Golf, Swimming and Stamp Collecting.

If you got to start over again after graduating school, what would you change?  I wouldn’t change anything!  I have had a good, good life … I wanted to work internationally, and that’s what I did most of my career.  It was … fun!  I had a good time, achieved most things, made a bit of money … so, what the hell?

Did you travel much?  I travelled a lot!  I was responsible for operations in 22 different countries.  I spent a fair amount of time on airplanes till 2001 – then not much after that.

How long have you been a Parishioner of St. Gabriel?  Since 1986.
